Be Still
“Be still, and know that I am God…” Psalm 46:10

BE STILL

Be still? Cease striving? I wrestle and wiggle, if not outwardly in my mind. My furrowed brow on the outside indicates a lack of stillness on the inside. What usually comes out of that restlessness and that “wiggliness” is my go to solution of “Let’s Just Move”. I’ve posed that solution to my husband 1,001 times over the last 20 years. Across the street, across town, across the country… let’s just move.

Moving in one way or another seems to be the default solution for the flesh. Being still, seems to be the winning solution for our soul. Read the verses around Psalm 46:10 and you’ll see the Psalmist declare that The Lord is our Refuge and our Strength our Very Present Help IN times of trouble. Be Still! What? The circumstances dictate that we run! But that’s just it… circumstances are dictators, often harsh dictators.

Psalm 23 says that The LORD is my SHEPHERD! Not a dictator, a shepherd. I can choose to follow His lead or not.He, the Good Shepherd, leads me. Where He lays me down I stay, when He moves I go. Never wanting, just waiting for Him. Even when we moving in Him we are still. He leads me beside still waters. There that word is again… STILL. This time it is referring to the circumstances… the setting… the scenery. And all is STILL!

This helps me remember who my shepherd is!

Being still on the inside… KNOWING that the great I AM is God and a GOOD SHEPHERD… makes things still on the outside. Circumstances are no longer dictators, they are green pastures and still waters.

Yes, I know the rest of Psalm 23… the Valley, the shadow of death… the scenery and circumstances of life change. But I fear no evil…I am comforted. I can still be still on the inside…. no matter what the circumstances are on the outside.
